Very well put Bill...

Another name that immediately comes to mind is Pavel Brendl.

When the Flyers traded Lindros he was a huge piece. Having played 170 games in the WHL, Brendl put up 320 points. He was the 4th overall pick in the draft, and many had him prematurely pegged to be a top line winger sooner than later. The rest is history. He was traded the following season for Sami Kapanen who scored more points in his first season as a Flyer than Brendl did in his entire career.

With that being said, Provolone is a near lock to be a Bobby Orr/ Serge Savard/ Nicklas Lidstrom hybrid.

I believe the Pittsburgh Penguins will meet with Jimmy Vesey today.

Anyone know when the Flyers are meeting with him?

Why would he want to play here with a bunch of second rate slugs? We are the worst team in the history of the entire NHL and we have no hope for turning things around.

Patience with prospects is key to Hextall's plan and is part of why I don't care what term they resign MDZ for. We need him around until the youth is ready. Once the youth is ready if the money is right you'll be able to trade MDZ and open the space needed. If some don't pan out you still have MDZ who's a valid NHL Dman.

I think they will meet him the first time they line up to play the Hawks, Bruins, or Pens

I try to bring up these facts to guys discussing it on facebook forums (i know great place for hockey banter) and when I do I get ridiculed as being the next NHL GM, it's actually kinda funny. People want to believe every player the Flyers draft is the next NHL superstar, and when anyone wants to try and bring them back to reality they flip out.

If there ever was such a thing as a surefire lock to be NHL stud based on junior/college/Euro play, Provorov would be it. Granted, there is no such thing (well, maybe Gretzky and Lemieux), but Provorov is about as close as you can get.

Pease drop names. I can actually think of three, although I think one has a lifetime ban on here.

*nod, nod*

It's the beard that gives him the edge. His "Hirsute/60" rating is among the league leaders.

Speaking of Pavel Brendl, check out his wikipedia when you get a chance:

He's seen more of Europe than Bon Jovi in 1986. Not only did I not know he was still kicking around hockey, but he led the KHL in goals in the KHL's first year.

Great post Bill, fans often set unreasonably high expectations for these kids. What many fail to understand is that even if they do reach their peak projections it can often take 3 or 4 NHL seasons, not even including the time spent at lower levels, to reach those expectations.

You just have to be patient, its not sexy or fun, but it's the smart way to go.
